You may have heard these 2 words used frequently in the building industry.
Almost all builders – from Volume builders to High-End Builders and Architects – use these terms. Whilst they may sound like the same thing, they mean two very different things.
When you start your journey to build a new home, your first question will be “do I want to build a custom home or build an “off the plan” design?”.
Let’s look into both of these terms and assess how they are used to describe any builders products and services on offer.
Customise is typically associated with volume builders that offer a series of pre-designed or standard homes and floorplans. If you go down the path of a volume builder, you would typically choose a plan, and you will have the option to customise certain parts of that floorplan.
Customise in essence, is the ability to make small alterations that are usually pre-determined by the builder, or small changes within the interior of the floorplan. You will be limited in what you can change. You are relying on a floorplan to be near on perfect to suit your site and your families requirements.
On top of this, you will be limited to a selection of add-on facades with limited or even no customising except for the colours.
When you hear the word “Custom”, it means a bespoke custom home specifically designed for your site, your lifestyle and how you and your family will use the space. It will be unique to you want. Latitude 37 design and build custom homes with this in mind, and is why our tag line is “Every Home an Original”.
Benefits of a custom home.
At Latitude 37, we believe a custom design is the only way to achieve a unique design outcome to meet the requirements of our clients. We consider site constraints and opportunities, your current and future lifestyle aspirations, desired level of specification and budget to prepare a unique design brief. The home we will design and build for you will be unlike any other – designed and customised to your specific requirements.
Your Site:
Maximising the potential of your site requires specialist custom design expertise at the earliest stages of the design process. If your block has more than 1m of fall you will find a volume builder wont build on it.
Latitude 37 will create an innovative and functional design solution that works with the land.
Your Lifestyle:
One floorplan doesn’t fit all. Your lifestyle is a critical factor that determines the vision and design of your custom home. We carefully consider your current and future lifestyle requirements and ensure the custom home solution we propose can grow and adapt with your family for many years to come, ensuring your new home remains a joy to live in for the long term.
Your Style:
Our interactive Interior Design process will enable you to design and detail bespoke joinery and interior features in real time using the latest 3D software. Our comprehensive interiors process will ensure you achieve a bespoke, cohesive interior design package to complement the exterior design of your home.
Now that you are aware of the difference between customise and custom, know what limitations are with customising, and know the benefits of designing a custom home with Latitude 37.
